Are You Eating Away At Your Health?

1. The first rule is to look to how nature does it. In nature, plants are whole and unadulterated. They are not refined or processed, nor do they contain preservatives, food enhancers, stabilizers, fillers, or fortified ingredients. In nature, there are no artificial ingredients, no artificial flavors, no chemicals, and no added food colorings. Looking to nature is appropriate and can be a helpful guide in choosing what to put on the table.

2. Rule number two in taking the nutritional path to good health has to do with understanding the difference between alkaline-producing and acid-producing foods.  A short explanation is helpful. When we are born, our bodies are in an alkaline state. If our blood becomes even somewhat acidic, we will die. When we metabolize food, it leaves a residue called ash (think of the ash left after a fire). This leftover ash is either alkaline or acidic depending upon the types of food we eat. Foods that leave an alkaline ash are mainly fruits and vegetables. Foods that leave an acidic ash are mainly meats, dairy products, pastas, breads, nuts, and grains. Next gradually add more fruits and natural juices to your diet and consciously decrease the amount of protein, fat, salt, sugar, and other stimulants such as soda, coffee, and alcohol. Be aware of what you are putting in your mouth and what you snack on. As you gradually improve your diet, cravings for salt and sugar will likely decrease.

In a nutshell, add more fruits and vegetables and decrease the amount of meats, grains, dairy, soft drinks, sugar, and salt products. The appropriate alkaline/acid balance is the nutritional path to good health and wellness. How are you doing? Are you eating away at your health?
